How to Apply

Submit your application:

1. Complete the Online Application
2. Download the Recommendation Form (all applicants); give this to a teacher, coach or other adult leader who will complete it and return it to us directly.
3. Download the Technical Theatre Recommendation Form (Tech Theatre, Design and Production students only); give this to a theatre teacher or advisor who will complete it and return it to us directly.

Confirm your place:

​After we receive all of your application materials, we will send you a confirmation packet by email. Return these materials with your $2000 deposit as soon as possible to confirm your place in the camp.

Deadlines

• February 15 - Application deadline to receive Early Application Discount
• March 1 - Deadline to submit confirmation paperwork and deposit to receive Early Application Discount
• April 1 - Priority application deadline
• May 1 - Final deadline - applications will be considered as space remains​

Early Application Discount

Apply by February 15 and automatically receive $500 off the program fee. To qualify for the discount, you must submit your application by February 15 and submit your confirmation paperwork and deposit ($2000) by March 1.

Returning Participant Discount

Participants who previously attended Costa Rica Theatre Camp will receive a $500 discount to attend again. This discount may not be combined with the Early Application Discount. Returning participants must submit the complete application form, but do not need to submit any recommendation forms.

Financial Aid

Limited need-based scholarships ranging from $250 to $2000 are available. Please contact [email protected] for a financial aid application.

​Fees include all in-country costs: homestay, food, transportation from San Jose airport to Monteverde and within the Monteverde zone, instruction, special activities and tours. Fee does not include airfare.

Program Options

Performance Option

• ​The performance option is open to students ages 12-18 at the time of their application. No previous experience is necessary.
• All performance participants are guaranteed a role in the show; you will be asked to submit an informal audition video after acceptance into the program to facilitate casting. 
• Because auditions and casting will take place earlier in June onsite, you might be asked to submit a call-back video online. Students who would like to be considered for a leading role must arrive in Monteverde by the start of the program date. 
• If you choose to join the program after the start date you will most likely be cast in smaller featured roles and/or ensemble roles.

Technical Theatre, Design and Production Option

​A limited number of participants may be accepted into the Technical Theatre, Design & Production option. To apply, you should:

• Be ages 15-18, currently in grades 10-12 for the current school year
• Have experience in technical theatre (at least 2 shows)
• Have at least 2 years of high school Spanish (or 1 year HS Spanish plus 2 years MS Spanish)
• Have a strong sense of initiative and the ability to work effectively independently
• Have excellent problem-solving skills and thrive on challenges
• Be interested in many different aspects of technical theatre & design (such as stage management, lighting, sound, set, props, costumes)
• Be interested in at least one aspect of theatre production (house management, box office, marketing, media)

You will be asked to submit a recommendation from a theatre teacher or advisor.
