On-site Volunteers


These are full-time seasonal positions.
​The applicant must be available to be on-site in Costa Rica
​from June 5th - July 27th, 2022 

​Theatre Director

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in education, theatre or related field (Master's degree preferred)
  • Minimum of two years of full-time teaching experience in formal and/or informal educational settings (5+ years preferred)
  • Experience leading and/or supervising college students or other adults
  • Conversational Spanish, or commitment to learn by the start of the program (advanced Spanish ability strongly preferred)
  • Experience directing theatrical productions (musicals preferred)
  • Exceptional flexibility and creative problem solving skills
  • Experience interacting significantly with individuals from different cultural backgrounds
  • Strong ability to give and receive constructive criticism
  • Passion for educating the whole person through music and theatre
  • Ability to work long days in a fast-paced, intensive environment
  • High level of self-awareness
Responsibilities
  • Stage and direct musical theatre production
  • Assist and support Program Coordinator in overseeing all aspects of the program and ensuring the safety and well-being of teen and child participants, college interns, and volunteers
  • Supervise and mentor college interns; regularly observe their work and provide feedback and guidance to implement the program in accordance with the mission of FCCMT
  • Engage with members of the Monteverde community
  • Collaborate on the oversight of all program purchases within an established budget
  • Assist in planning and preparation for summer program; approximately 1-2 hours per week April through early June

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent amount of relevant work experience
  • Theatre Design major preferred
  • Experience designing and building sets for musicals or plays
  • Experience in carpentry and use of power tools highly preferred
  • Experience with Lighting & Sound Design including rigging/hanging, focusing and circuiting (basic electrical engineering)
  • Creativity and willingness to work in a non-traditional theatre setting where resources are limited
  • Experience working with children/youth
  • Interest in and open mind towards immersion in a new culture
  • Flexibility, patience and maturity
  • ​Excellent creative problem-solving skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Commitment to abide by our drug/alcohol policy
  • Strong ability to give and receive constructive criticism
  • Ability to work long days in a fast-paced, intensive environment​
Responsibilities
  • Work alongside the stage director and musical director to design the set and scenery for the production
  • Manage, execute and oversee the building of all aspects of the set and scenery
  • Oversee the design, programming, rigging, circuiting and focusing of lighting equipment
  • Asses, execute, delegate and oversee the design of props, sound cues, special effects and any other technical aspects relevant to the success of the production 
  • Maintain high safety standards to ensure the well-being of all actors and staff members while on-stage and back-stage
  • Oversee the set-up and structure of the sound system, including wireless mics, on-stage area mics, house speaker system and monitor system 
  • ​Oversee and manage the proper strike of the show alongside the Program Director

​Media Director

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent amount of relevant work experience
  • Experience in photography and videography
  • Superior writing skills
  • Graphic Design skills preferred
  • Computer and web skills
  • Excellent creative problem-solving skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Experience working with children/youth
  • Interest in and open mind towards immersion in a new culture
  • Flexibility, patience and maturity
  • Commitment to abide by our drug/alcohol policy
  • Conversational Spanish (preferred, but not required)
  • Strong ability to give and receive constructive criticism
  • Ability to work long days in a fast-paced, intensive environment
  • ​Willingness to learn some Spanish (Spanish proficiency is valued but not required)
Responsibilities
  • Record program activities through photography and video
  • Create, edit, and manage website and blog content
  • Curate social media accounts
  • Produce short videos
  • Conduct interviews with staff and participants on film and/or in writing
